Assessment of Cardiorespiratory Fitness without Exercise in Elderly Men with Chronic Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases
Low cardiorespiratory (CRF) is associated with health problems in elderly people, especially cardiovascular and metabolic disease. However, physical limitations in this population frequently preclude the application of aerobic tests. We developed a model to estimate CRF without aerobic testing in older men with chronic cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Subjects aged from 60 to 91 years wer...
متن کاملCardiorespiratory fitness and mortality in diabetic men with and without cardiovascular disease.
We assessed joint associations of cardiorespiratory fitness and diabetes, cardiovascular disease (CVD), or both with all-cause mortality. High-fitness eliminated mortality risk in diabetes (P<0.001) and halved risk of death in diabetes/CVD (P<0.001). Fitness was a potent effect modifier in the association of diabetes and CVD to mortality.
متن کاملCardiorespiratory Fitness and Metabolic Syndrome in Older Men and Women
OBJECTIVE We studied the association of maximum oxygen uptake (Vo(2max)) with the development and resolution of metabolic syndrome (MetS) for 2 years in older individuals. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Subjects were a population sample of 1,226 men and women aged 57-78 years. We assessed Vo(2max) directly by respiratory gas analysis during maximum exercise testing and used dichotomous and conti...
متن کاملCardiorespiratory fitness, alcohol intake, and metabolic syndrome incidence in men.
PURPOSE The objective of this study is to prospectively examine the independent and joint effects of alcohol consumption and cardiorespiratory fitness on the incidence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in a cohort of men. METHODS A prospective examination was done of 3411 apparently healthy men at baseline, who came to the Cooper Clinic (Dallas, TX) for at least two preventive visits (1979-2010). ...
متن کاملMetabolic assessment of elderly men with urolithiasis
OBJECTIVE To assess the presence of metabolic disorders in elderly men with urolithiasis. METHODS We performed a case-control study. The inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) men older than 60 years of age and either (2) antecedent renal colic or an incidental diagnosis of urinary lithiasis after age 60 (case arm) or (3) no antecedent renal colic or incidental diagnosis of urolithiasis (con...
